Overview

Change Grow Live are a charity dedicated to the belief that we can make a difference to our Service Users lives. Park House is a busy 18 bedded purpose-built detox unit designed using a Psychologically Informed Environment approach to enhance the experience of staff and those who use our service, and we are looking for an additional Sessional Healthcare Assistant to join us.

Our team is made up of many skilled staff working together – including our, Services Manager, Clinical Nurse Manager, a Consultant Psychiatrist, Doctors, Lead Nurse, Nurses, Peer Mentors, Volunteers, Health Care Assistants, Chef, Housekeeper, Administrators, and local Pharmacists. Our collective aim is to make a difference to the lives of our residents and their families.

At Park House no two days are the same and we treat every person who comes into our unit as an individual. Being curious, a good listener and having an intuitive approach are essential. We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and our permanent staff work to a shift pattern including days, nights, and weekends. It is essential that you are physically able to participate in safe manual handling of service users should the need arise.

Responsibilities

About the role:

  • Undertake initial physical and mental health screening for people who access our services and working under the direction of a nurse to ensure appropriate sign posting/referral to primary care or appropriate secondary health care services for identified health issues.
  • Following training and competency sign off undertake interventions such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature monitoring, Height/weight recording and ECGs for service users as indicated or requested.
  • Support inpatient Opiate stabilisation and detoxification as well as detoxifications of other substances for service users.
  • Work as part of the integrated care and treatment pathways for individuals who are identified as being infected with BBV/s (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and/or HIV).
  • Support in facilitating after care plans by making referrals to specialist community services and liaising with hospitals, GPs and other external agencies.
  • Undertake phlebotomy following training and competency sign off, as required, ensuring adherence to identified pathways for blood sample labelling, collection, obtaining results and signposting.
  • Undertake basic life support and anaphylaxis training so you are confident and competent to assist in a medical emergency including the administration of Naloxone if required.

About you:

  • Good interpersonal skills and a willingness to work flexibly as part of a team.
  • Experience of working within substance misuse or a social care setting.
  • A clear understanding of the need for and ability to deliver quality services.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and work effectively with partnership agencies.
  • Ability to travel between services.
  • Show commitment to facilitating positive outcomes for service users.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Confidence to work on own initiative as well as part of the team.
  • Communicate confidently and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Respond flexibly to the demands of the post.
