£27.84 per hour +12.07% holiday pay
Telford College is seeking enthusiastic and committed Sessional Lecturers to support the delivery of English and/or Maths at RAF Cosford.
Teaching hours will be offered on an as-and-when-required basis, depending on learner demand, programme requirements and the needs of the College. There is no obligation for the College to provide a minimum number of hours, and there is no obligation for the successful candidate to accept work offered.
This is an exciting opportunity to play an important role in supporting learners within a unique military training environment. You will deliver engaging, high-quality teaching to learners whose first language is not English, helping them to develop the technical language, literacy and numeracy skills they need to succeed in their training and wider professional development.
Working as part of a dedicated curriculum team, you will create a positive and inclusive learning environment, adapting your approach to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners. You will need to be confident working in a professional military setting and able to build effective relationships with both learners and colleagues.
We are looking for lecturers who are passionate about education, take pride in delivering high-quality learning experiences and can bring energy, flexibility and professionalism to every session.
This is a casual, sessional position and hours of work are not guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, effective Maths and/or English lessons appropriate to the needs and abilities of learners.
- Support learners whose first language is not English, adapting teaching approaches and resources to promote understanding and progress.
- Create an inclusive, supportive and positive learning environment that encourages learners to participate and achieve.
- Assess learners’ progress and provide constructive feedback to support their development.
- Adapt teaching and learning strategies to meet the needs of individual learners and groups.
- Maintain high standards of teaching, professionalism and learner support.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the wider curriculum team.
- Communicate effectively with learners, colleagues and relevant stakeholders.
- Comply with the expectations and requirements of working within a military environment at RAF Cosford.
- Maintain appropriate records and complete any required administrative or quality-assurance activities associated with teaching.
- Keep abreast of developments in English language teaching methodology.
- Actively participate in professional development and training as required by the College and RAF.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
SKILLS AND EXPERTISE
- A genuine passion for teaching and supporting learners to achieve their potential.
- Experience of, or an understanding of, teaching learners whose first language is not English.
- Strong subject knowledge in English and/or Maths.
- The ability to plan and deliver engaging, accessible and well-structured lessons.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners from diverse backgrounds.
- The ability to adapt teaching approaches to different learning needs, abilities and levels of English proficiency.
- Strong organisation, preparation and time-management skills.
- A flexible, professional and reliable approach to sessional teaching.
- Confidence working collaboratively as part of a curriculum team.
- The professionalism and adaptability required to work effectively within a military training environment.
- A commitment to high standards of teaching, learner support, safeguarding and professional conduct.
- Previous experience teaching military/technical English is desirable.

Qualifications & Training
Candidates must meet the qualification requirements for teaching staff working on the RAF Cosford provision. Applicants must hold either:
- A recognised teaching qualification, such as CELTA, DELTA or an equivalent ESOL/teaching qualification; or
- A Level 6 or above degree from a recognised institution.
Relevant qualifications or experience in English, Maths, ESOL, literacy, numeracy or related subject areas would be advantageous. Current IELTS examiner status in Writing and Speaking is desirable. Candidates should also be willing to undertake any training required for the role, including training associated with working within the RAF Cosford environment.
