Criterion Capital is seeking a skilled and experienced Setting Out Engineer to support the delivery of redevelopment, refurbishment, adaptation, and new-build projects. This role requires a detail-oriented engineer with strong site-based experience, capable of accurately setting out works, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring construction is delivered in line with design specifications and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with site managers, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure precision and efficiency from initial groundworks through to completion, including the use of modern digital surveying and 3D scanning technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out accurate setting out for all aspects of construction works, including groundworks, structures, and external works.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, specifications, and survey data.
  • Establish and maintain site control points, benchmarks, and grid lines.
  • Utilise digital surveying tools, including 3D laser scanning and reality capture technologies, to verify works and existing conditions.
  • Process and interpret point cloud data to support construction accuracy and coordination.
  • Ensure works are constructed in accordance with approved drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Liaise with site teams, subcontractors, and design consultants to resolve technical issues on site.
  • Conduct as-built surveys, including digital capture, and maintain accurate site records.
  • Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, health & safety standards, and project requirements.
  • Assist with quality assurance processes and inspections throughout the construction phase.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
