Sewing Machinist / Industrial Sewing Operative

Location: Southend-on-Sea, Essex

We are currently recruiting for a Sewing Machinist / Industrial Sewing Operative to join a busy production team within a well-established aerospace manufacturing business in Southend-on-Sea.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience operating industrial sewing machines and overlockers, who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and takes pride in producing high-quality products.

The Role

Working within the Machine Shop, you will be responsible for sewing and assembling cut materials into finished covers and components, ensuring all products are manufactured to the required quality standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating industrial sewing machines and overlockers to manufacture finished products.
  • Overlocking cut parts following established procedures and training guidelines.
  • Sewing cut components into complete items using drawings, templates, work instructions, and sample products.
  • Carrying out rework and repairs when required.
  • Maintaining sewing machines and overlockers, including routine cleaning and oiling.
  • Reporting equipment faults and maintenance issues to the Team Leader.
  • Ensuring product traceability is maintained throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Supporting colleagues and assisting with additional production tasks when required.
  • Maintaining high housekeeping standards across the work area.
  • Following all company quality, health & safety, and manufacturing procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Sewing Machinist, Industrial Sewing Operator, Seamstress, Upholstery Sewer, Textile Operative, or Manufacturing Sewing Operator.
  • Experience using industrial sewing machines and overlockers.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, templates, and drawings.
  • Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong team player with a positive and flexible attitude.
  • Understanding of health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
  • Aerospace, automotive, upholstery, textile, or manufacturing experience would be advantageous.
