Are you a passionate and experienced nurse looking to make a real difference in sexual and reproductive healthcare?
We are seeking a highly motivated Sexual Health Nurse to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team at The Riverside Clinic.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred contraceptive and sexual health services to a diverse population. You will work autonomously and collaboratively to provide expert clinical care, health promotion, education and support, helping patients make informed choices about their sexual health.
As an experienced practitioner, you will contribute to the ongoing development of nurse-led services, supporting innovative approaches to care and ensuring patients receive timely, compassionate and evidence-based treatment. You will also help coordinate the day-to-day running of the clinic, providing supervision and support to junior colleagues and students while fostering a positive learning environment.
The role offers a diverse clinical caseload, including sexual health assessment, contraception, STI testing and treatment, health promotion and safeguarding, making it an ideal opportunity for a nurse who enjoys working in a fast-paced, progressive and rewarding speciality.
Main duties of the job
- With advanced clinical skill and using departmental protocols, undertake a sexual and contraceptive history, examination and screening for sexually acquired infection for unselected (symptomatic and asymptomatic) patients.
- Take a detailed sexual history and discuss partner notification.
- Examine patients and take appropriate swabs/samples in accordance with the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH).
- Give treatments as per Patient Group Directions.
- Perform cryotherapy, and advise on home wart treatment for patients.
- Give advice on contraceptive options. Perform pregnancy tests as necessary and give emergency contraception if required. Discuss safer sex issues. Give a condom demonstration as required and issue condoms/C Card as appropriate.
- Commence appropriate contraception after assessing the patient’s needs and requirements.

Essential criteria
- Qualification in contraception and sexual health
- Teaching qualification e.g. ENB/City and Guilds/Practice Education
Desirable criteria
- Non-medical prescribing
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum 2 years working in sexual health/contraception
- Experience of working with young people
- Experience of working to Patient Group Directions
Desirable criteria
- Experience in supporting learners
