Regulatory Reporting Consultant - SFTR Subject Matter Expert

We're partnering with a regulatory reporting platform, as it strengthens the SFTR subject matter expertise behind its client-facing teams.

This is a client-facing advisory role rather than an in-house one. Instead of owning a single firm's reporting framework, you will be deployed into client engagements, working alongside institutional clients to resolve SFTR reporting issues, validate their scope against ESMA guidance, and map their source data to the platform's SFTR specification.

The work is primarily remediation. You will be helping clients resolve SFTR reporting issues - scoping the extent of a problem, correcting and resubmitting historic reporting, and supporting them where regulatory notification is required. This is an initial 12-month contract.

The defining requirement is the ability to translate between the business and the regulation. Regulatory knowledge alone is not the differentiator: the scarcer and more valuable profile is someone who has worked in securities finance and can sit with a client, discuss the products they trade, and explain clearly what those products mean for what they must report. This is a mid-to-senior business analyst position, based in London or elsewhere in Europe, with most clients European and predominantly sell-side.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the SFTR subject matter expert on client engagements, providing hands-on business analysis support to institutions resolving SFTR reporting issues
  • Scope and size issues identified through internal or external audit - establishing how many trades and which fields are affected, and the true extent of the exposure
  • Lead back-reporting exercises, correcting and resubmitting historic misreported or unreported transactions
  • Support clients in preparing for regulator notification and in responding to regulatory enquiries arising from reporting failures
  • Engage clients directly on the securities finance products they trade, translating those products into clear reporting obligations
  • Validate reporting scope and requirements against ESMA guidance, assessed specifically against each client's investable universe
  • Analyse client source system datasets, including BRS Aladdin, to determine which attributes will service their SFTR reporting requirements
  • Map client data artefacts to the platform's SFTR specification, identifying gaps, ambiguities, and fields requiring attention
  • Lead working sessions with key client stakeholders to resolve specific data gaps and interpretive questions, providing expertise directly in the room
  • Prioritise the fields and data elements requiring attention in conjunction with the client, and document the resulting analysis and recommendations
  • Produce Business Requirements Documents and test scripts built around each client's business scenarios
  • Provide documented subject matter expertise on specific concerns raised over the course of an engagement, and prepare clear, high-level summaries of engagement activity and outcomes for client distribution

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements

  • Mid-to-senior business analyst experience gained in capital markets, with a track record in regulatory reporting change. Sell-side and banking backgrounds are preferred, given the client base
  • Deep, hands-on SFTR expertise, including direct experience of scope validation, field-level mapping, back-reporting, and data quality remediation
  • Front or middle office experience in securities finance - securities lending, repo, or collateral management - rather than regulatory interpretation alone. The ability to discuss a client's product set with authority and translate it into reporting obligations is the single most valuable attribute for this role
  • Experience of remediation work driven by internal or external audit findings, including back-reporting and regulator notification, is a strong advantage
  • Strong business analysis and project management discipline covering scoping, gap assessment, requirements documentation, and QA / UAT testing
  • Familiarity with the source systems and order management platforms used across the client base - BRS Aladdin, Charles River (CRIMS), or Thinkfolio - is valuable
  • Broader regulatory reporting exposure across EMIR, MiFID II / MiFIR, or CFTC / SEC regimes
  • A track record of producing client-ready documentation - BRDs, test scripts, and analysis summaries - to a standard that withstands scrutiny
  • Comfortable running engagements with a high degree of autonomy, managing more than one client at a time and adapting as review and sign-off cycles dictate
  • Excellent stakeholder management and consulting presence, with the confidence to lead sessions with senior client stakeholders and represent subject matter expertise credibly
