WE'RE HIRING – SPECIAL EFFECTS TECHNICIAN

πŸ“ Based in Harlow, Essex (CM17 9LD)
πŸ’Ό Full-time | Permanent
πŸ’° Salary: Dependent on experience + excellent overtime & on-site earning opportunities

Are you looking for a career that is anything but ordinary?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Special Effects Technician to join our team, based full-time at our warehouse in Harlow, Essex.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in some of the most exciting events and productions across the UK and potentially internationally β€” working on concerts, festivals, major tours, television productions, live events, and high-profile projects.

πŸ’₯ What will you be doing?

The role will be varied, hands-on, and fast-paced. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and maintaining special effects equipment at our Harlow warehouse
  • Loading, transporting, and preparing equipment for events
  • Working on-site at concerts, festivals, tours, television studios, and live events
  • Installing, operating, and dismantling special effects equipment
  • Working as part of a professional production and technical team
  • Carrying out equipment checks, maintenance, and preparation
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of projects
  • Working safely and professionally in challenging and exciting environments
  • Travelling to events throughout the UK and, where opportunities arise, overseas

Full training will be provided, so previous special effects experience is not essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer β€” it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet β€” that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This isn't simply a technician role.

We are looking for someone who wants to build a career within the special effects industry.

As you develop your technical knowledge and experience, there will be opportunities for the role to evolve towards project planning and management, with the long-term aim of giving the right person responsibility for planning, managing, and running their own special effects projects.

If you already have experience as a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Event Manager, Production Manager, or in a similar role, this would be a significant advantage.

πŸ‘€ Who are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Practical, hands-on, and technically minded
  • Reliable, organized, and willing to learn
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Confident working in busy and sometimes demanding environments
  • Prepared to travel and work flexible hours when required
  • Professional and confident when working with clients and production teams
  • Interested in developing a long-term career in the industry

Essential:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel and work on-site
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience within the events, entertainment, television, or production industry
  • Experience with technical equipment
  • Project management or event management experience
  • Experience working on live events, concerts, festivals, or tours

One of the best things about working in our industry is that no two projects are the same.

You could find yourself working backstage at a major concert one week, on a television production the next, and travelling with a touring production after that.

You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and become involved in high-profile events and productions that most people only ever see from the audience.

πŸ’· What we offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • On-site fees and additional earning opportunities
  • Full training and ongoing development
  • Opportunities for progression into project management
  • Travel and the opportunity to work on exciting, high-profile productions
  • A varied role where every project is different
