About The Role

We are looking for a Health & Safety professional who has multi-site construction, manufacturing, utilities or water industry experience to join the team who look after branches across England, Wales and Scotland. This role will specifically be working with the pump and pipework installation teams across the South of England and Wales.

The SHE Lead will support in ensuring compliance with SHE legislation, standards, and best practices across their designated area. The SHE Lead will be embedded within their designated area and partner with senior stakeholders to ensure safe, sustainable, and legally compliant operations, fostering a positive SHE culture across all levels of the business.

This role plays a key part in maintaining ISO audits and certifications, conducting audits, and leading on risk management, incident investigations, and environmental compliance.

Main Responsibilities

SHE Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure a safe workplace environment by supporting compliance with ISO requirements across their designed area.
  • Develop, review, and maintain SHE policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure all statutory obligations are met, including training, reporting, and regulatory compliance within their designed area.
  • Conduct regular compliance reviews, audits, and site inspections to maintain SHE standards.
  • Ensure that risk assessments for equipment, tasks, and environmental impacts are completed and regularly reviewed.
  • Monitor and lead on waste management and pollution control.
  • Support environmental reporting and compliance with permits and regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary SHE contact for assigned area embedding yourself into the business unit.
  • Build strong working relationships with senior stakeholders within your designated area to support SHE initiatives.
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practice and lessons learned across the business by providing regular feedback to the MD/ Head of SHE and senior management within your area on SHE performance.

Incident Investigation

  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Document and communicate findings to your key stakeholders, working in partnership to embed corrective action and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure designated area meets legal reporting requirements, including RIDDOR and environmental incident notifications.

Training & Communication

  • Ensure effective communication of SHE updates, audit results, and improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development and delivery of SHE training programmes within their area, ensuring consistency throughout the business.
  • Ensure training records are maintained, and SHE awareness is promoted across all levels.
  • Develop toolbox talks, safety bulletins, and environmental awareness campaigns.
  • Plan travel effectively to maximise visibility and support for frontline teams.

Audits & Data

  • Conduct internal audits and compliance checks, ensuring ISO requirements are met.
  • Assist in external audits and accreditation assessments, engaging with external regulatory bodies, certification auditors, and industry groups.
  • Support the MD/ Head of SHE and designated stakeholders in ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement and support the wider team in implementing best practices.
  • Use data insights to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Keep up to date with legislative and regulatory changes, ensuring Workdry remains compliant.

Qualifications And Skills Required

  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or working towards).
  • IEMA qualification or experience in environmental management.
  • ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Membership of IOSH or IEMA.
  • Experience in construction, utilities, pump/plant hire, or manufacturing.
  • Experience in supply chain safety and environmental compliance.
  • Knowledge of UVDB accreditation, Network Rail PTS, and SharePoint.
