We are looking for a motivated and ambitious SHE Manager to support the delivery of projects across our SSEN framework in Scotland. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in major infrastructure projects, supporting teams from early contractor engagement through to successful project delivery.
As a SHE Manager, you will provide expert safety, health, and environmental leadership across a portfolio of projects, collaborating closely with operational teams, project leaders, clients, and supply chain partners to ensure the highest standards of compliance, performance, and continuous improvement.
This role offers the opportunity to influence project outcomes, drive a positive safety culture and contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects across Scotland.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide professional Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) support across projects within the SSEN framework.
- Support the leadership team in delivering business objectives and implementing strategic SHE initiatives.
- Promote and embed a strong safety culture, supporting the organisation's commitment to protecting people.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety, health and environmental legislation, industry standards, and company procedures.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and promote best practice across all project activities.
- Provide advice, guidance and support to management teams, employees, and supply chain partners on SHE matters.
- Lead and coordinate SHE activities across multiple projects and business functions.
- Produce accurate and effective SHE reports, data analysis and performance updates.
- Support bid, tender and prequalification activities by contributing SHE expertise and documentation.
- Mentor and support the development of less experienced members of the SHE team.
- Support and lead accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and lessons learned.
- Contribute to wider business improvement initiatives, working groups and best practice forums.
- Develop strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and supply chain partners.
- Travel across Scotland as required to support project and operational needs.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- IOSH qualification or equivalent professional SHE qualification.
- Experience working within a heavily regulated sector such as energy, utilities, power transmission, or similar industries.
- Experience supporting infrastructure, utilities, or heavy civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of safety, health and environmental legislation and industry best practice.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Experience leading, managing or coordinating teams.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Confidence to challenge behaviours and processes where required to improve SHE performance.
- Initiative-taking and purposeful approach to problem solving.
- Enthusiasm for continuous improvement, innovation, and shared learning.
- Experience collaborating directly with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
- Flexible approach with a willingness to travel as required.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
