SHE Manager
We are seeking an experienced SHE Manager to join our growing team, supporting the delivery of a nationally significant nuclear infrastructure project. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role within a high-profile programme, shaping health, safety and environmental performance while collaborating with experienced professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will lead the delivery of SHE objectives across the project, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, company standards, and industry best practice. You will play a key role in driving our commitment to creating a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace while supporting the successful delivery of project objectives.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead and promote a positive health, safety, and environmental culture across the project.
- Work proactively with operational and project management teams to establish and maintain safe systems of work and a safe working environment.
- Provide expert SHE advice, guidance, coaching and support to managers, employees, and supply chain partners.
- Support the development, implementation, review and reporting of strategic SHE objectives and improvement plans.
- Ensure company safety, health and environmental policies are consistently implemented across the project.
- Promote and support local and regional safety initiatives, campaigns, and improvement programmes.
- Analyse SHE performance data, identify trends and develop action plans to drive continuous improvement.
- Monitor and review the effectiveness of SHE policies, systems, and procedures, implementing enhancements where required.
- Advise management on existing and emerging health, safety, and environmental legislation, ensuring ongoing compliance.
- Assist managers with the effective implementation of SHE management systems and procedures, including risk assessments, incident reporting, and COSHH requirements.
- Support accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Conduct audits and inspections to evaluate compliance and drive improvements in SHE performance.
- Manage the collection, analysis and reporting of SHE performance data and provide meaningful management information.
- Prioritise SHE resources and support activities based on identified risks and operational requirements.
- Coordinate and maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies, local authorities, environmental agencies, and trade unions.
- Monitor workforce competence levels and identify training and development needs.
- Develop and deliver SHE training, coaching and awareness programmes for managers and employees.
- Ensure external training providers deliver effective and compliant training solutions.
- Share lessons learned and best practice across the wider business.
- Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge of SHE legislation, industry developments, and best practice.
- Promote collaborative working and support a culture of openness, honesty, and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Appropriate CSCS Card.
- Membership of IOSH at Graduate, Chartered or equivalent level, or NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and its practical application within construction, infrastructure, or civil engineering environments.
- Experience leading and supporting SHE functions within complex project environments.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate teams and drive exacting standards of compliance and performance.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and challenge at all levels of an organisation.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations, and implementing improvement initiatives.
- Ability to interpret performance data, identify trends and develop effective action plans.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong understanding of risk management and safe systems of work.
- Sound knowledge of construction industry practices and standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and build strong working relationships.

Desirable
- NEBOSH Diploma.
- NEBOSH Fire Prevention and Risk Management Certificate.
- Environmental Management Systems qualification.
- General Management qualification.
- Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).
- Detailed knowledge of current safety, health, and environmental best practice within major infrastructure projects.
- Experience engaging with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders.
