SHEQ Advisor South
Location: High Wycombe, Watford or North London
Remuneration: Competitive Salary + Car Allowance
Role Purpose
The SHEQ Advisor – South is responsible for providing proactive, competent and practical safety, health, environmental and quality support, predominantly to a key contract operating across the South of England. The role will focus on construction and reactive maintenance activities across the Home Counties, London and Kent, while supporting the wider Group where business need or safety team priorities require. The postholder will work independently, plan and prioritise their own workload, provide practical advice, challenge poor standards constructively and drive measurable improvement across operational delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide competent SHEQ advice, assurance and operational support across construction and reactive maintenance activities.
- Undertake planned and risk-based site inspections, audits, assurance visits and compliance reviews across the Home Counties, London and Kent.
- Review and challenge RAMS, construction phase plans, permits, safe systems of work and subcontractor documentation.
- Support responsive repairs, planned maintenance, voids, refurbishment, general construction and associated compliance-led works.
- Identify operational risks early and work with managers, supervisors, operatives and subcontractors to implement practical controls and close actions.
- Support incident, accident, near miss and non-conformance investigations, including root cause analysis, lessons learned and corrective action close-out.
- Deliver briefings, toolbox talks, coaching and SHEQ communications to improve standards and behaviours.
- Support client-facing assurance activity, including audit preparation, evidence gathering, performance reporting and corrective action management.
- Contribute to the implementation and continual improvement of ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, action trackers and evidence suitable for internal, client, accreditation and regulatory scrutiny.
- Escalate significant risks, repeated non-compliance or lack of operational ownership promptly through the SHEQ Manager South and Group Head of SHEQ.
- Travel occasionally to other areas of the UK where required by business need or the safety team leadership.

Essential Criteria
- NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent construction health and safety qualification.
- Demonstrable experience supporting construction and reactive maintenance activities.
- Working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, CDM 2015, risk management, contractor control and safe systems of work.
- Experience supporting or maintaining ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Ability to self-manage, plan visits, prioritise risk and deliver agreed outputs without close supervision.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and influencing skills, with confidence to challenge poor practice constructively.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Must be based close to High Wycombe, Watford or North London and able to travel regularly across the Home Counties, London and Kent.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to other areas, including overnight stays where business need requires.
- Ability to pass a clean BPSS check where required by client, contract or business need.

Desirable Criteria
- Experience of passive fire protection, fire door works, fire stopping, compartmentation or related fire safety compliance activity.
- Experience supporting projects affected by the Building Safety Act and higher-risk building requirements.
- Experience working in occupied homes, social housing, healthcare, education, defence accommodation or similarly sensitive environments.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as IOSH or IIRSM.
- Environmental or quality management qualification, or practical experience supporting environmental and quality improvement.
