We are looking for an experienced HSQE professional from a construction or civil engineering background who can provide practical support to project teams and management, while helping to drive a positive culture of health, safety, quality, and environmental performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional HSQE advice and support to operational and management teams across a range of construction and civil engineering projects.
  • Ensure projects comply with relevant UK legislation, company policies, client requirements, and industry best practice.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental documentation, including RAMS, policies, procedures, and improvement plans.
  • Assist with the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, identifying root causes, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Work closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, and operational teams to promote a positive and proactive HSQE culture.
  • Provide guidance and support on risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor project performance against HSQE objectives, KPIs, and client requirements, providing regular feedback and reporting to management.
  • Support the delivery of toolbox talks, briefings, training, and behavioral safety initiatives.
  • Assist with the implementation and continual improvement of the company’s Integrated Management System.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents, actions, and compliance documentation.

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in an HSQE, HSEQ, SHEQ, HSE, or Health & Safety role within the construction or civil engineering sector.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and construction industry best practice.
  • Practical experience of undertaking site inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Good understanding of risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with site teams, management, clients, and subcontractors.
  • A proactive and practical approach to health, safety, quality, and environmental management.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between project sites.

Desirable

  • NEBOSH / NCRQ / IOSH or other relevant Health & Safety qualification.
  • Chartered or Incorporated status, or working towards professional membership.
  • Experience working on water, utilities, energy, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working within an ISO-certified Integrated Management System.
  • Internal auditing experience, particularly ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
  • Experience of working with major clients and frameworks.
  • Experience supporting behavioral safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
