About the Role
M Group Water (Infrastructure) is looking to recruit a SHEQ Advisor to work on our Thames Water Capital Delivery Civils programme, primarily travelling 3-4 days per week at fixed sites across South London / Bexley area, providing Health, Safety and Environmental support to our operational teams. You will be working on a mixture of large scale and small scale projects.
This role is a full-time, area-based role requiring travel to various fixed sites across South London and Bexley, so a full UK driving licence coupled with willingness to travel to multiple sites is required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Be the nominated H&S support to multiple sites and build working relationships with site management.
- Assist and advise the operational team on specialist areas such as risk assessments, CDM regulations, safe excavation, hazardous substances, noise, machinery, and people-plant interface.
- Monitor direct employees and sub-contractors via site inspection and management audits.
- Coach best practice and drive continual improvements.
- Support incident management, conduct on-site investigations, and prepare incident reports.
- Present inductions, toolbox talks, team talks, and appropriate SHE training materials about health, safety, and environmental issues and risks.
- Consistently demonstrate high standards of safety behavior, leading by example and promoting a positive safety culture.
- Act as a role model in support of the M Group visions, priorities, and values.
What You’ll Bring
- NEBOSH Construction or General certificate.
- Previous experience as an Environmental Quality Safety / SHEQ Advisor in a construction environment, with preference towards civil engineering and/or utility projects.
- Extensive knowledge and experience implementing CDM Regulations.
- Ability to coach/encourage improvements to safety practices, procedures, attitudes, and raise awareness.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel.
- IOSH Membership - preferable.
- Environmental Qualifications - desirable.
- Temporary works and/or appointed persons experience - desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to manage potential conflict during site inspections with operational teams.
- Capable of delivering confident articulate presentations.
