ABOUT JSM
At JSM Group, we are a leading specialist infrastructure engineering company. We design and install the complex power networks, digital infrastructure and specialist systems a future-focused worldwide marketplace needs — from high-power grid connections to critical utilities, data centres to renewable energy.
From High-Power grid connections to Critical Utilities. Data Centres to Renewable Energy, our full turnkey solution teams manage the full scope to help advise and deliver complex infrastructure projects at speed, on time and with reduced legislation, technical and commercial risks.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join JSM's SHEQ team [confirm division/region this role sits in — e.g. a specific business line or geography], supporting Safety, Health, Environment and Quality across our utilities and infrastructure projects. The team's mission is to enable a harm free future: promoting safety, health and wellbeing, protecting the environment, and giving operational teams the knowledge, skills and tools to work responsibly and improve continually.
You'll report to the SHEQ Manager and work alongside site supervisors, project managers, engineers and the wider SHEQ team, plus client-side contacts where relevant. The role is site-based across [name specific locations/region — e.g. River Road, Creek Road, Potters Bar and other JSM sites], with the day-to-day split between desk-based reporting and time on site auditing, coaching and solving problems with delivery teams.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role exists to give JSM's operational teams direct, on-the-ground SHEQ advice — keeping delivery compliant with legislation and best practice, and closing the gap between policy and site reality. You'll be the first point of contact for SHEQ matters in your area of the business, and a visible driver of JSM's harm free ambition.
Day to day, you will:
- Audit and inspect sites, providing independent assurance that SHEQ and management system requirements are being met
- Investigate accidents, incidents and utility damages, applying Just Culture and a Human Factors approach to find root causes and agree preventative action
- Check competency for critical risk activities, including CAT & Genny/safe digging, plant operation, and deep excavation and temporary works
- Review and compile project SHEQ documentation, including CPPs, QMPs, risk registers, RAMS, COSHH assessments and emergency plans
- Run specialist monitoring activity, including drug and alcohol testing, face fit testing and Legionella checks
- Use SHEQ data and KPIs to drive objective performance conversations with operational teams, management and clients

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

ABOUT YOU
You'll do well here if you recognise yourself in this:
- You're hungry to grow and you take personal responsibility for your work and your development.
- You're comfortable with complexity and you'd rather solve a hard technical problem than avoid it.
- You work well across disciplines — you know good delivery depends on civil, power and digital teams pulling in the same direction.
- You use sound judgment under pressure and you're straight with people about risk and programme.
- You care about people going home safe, and you'd rather have the direct conversation on site than let a risk slide.
