ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Group SHEQ team, reporting to the SHEQ Manager and supporting our operational divisions. The team's mission is to enable a harm-free future. That means promoting safety, health and wellbeing, protecting the environment, and giving our people the knowledge, skills and tools to act responsibly and keep improving.
You'll work closely with site supervisors, operational managers and project teams, and with clients where needed. Your time will be split between live sites, where you'll audit, inspect and coach, and our permanent locations at River Road, Creek Road and Potters Bar, where you'll be the dedicated SHEQ contact.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll be the go-to SHEQ professional for your area of the business. You'll give practical, expert advice that keeps our people safe and our sites compliant, and you'll help teams find better, safer ways of working rather than simply policing them. We're recruiting at two levels, depending on your qualifications and experience.
Day to day, you will:
- Carry out audits, inspections and site competency checks for critical-risk activities, including CAT & Genny/safe digging, plant operations and deep excavations/temporary works
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, utility damages and quality issues, using a Just Culture and Human Factors approach to find root causes and agree preventative actions
- Review and help compile project SHEQ documentation, including CPPs, QMPs, RAMS, COSHH assessments and emergency plans
- Use SHEQ data, KPIs and dashboards to hold objective performance conversations with operational teams, managers and clients
- Deliver toolbox talks, awareness training and workshops, and promote close-call reporting and wellbeing campaigns
- Support our ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certifications and lead site improvement activities using Lean and 5S principles

This is a site-based role with travel between locations, including occasional weekend and night work. You'll also carry out specialist monitoring such as drug and alcohol testing, face-fit testing, Legionella checks and PAT testing.
ABOUT YOU

EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Experience in a SHEQ Adviser role within utilities, civil engineering or construction
- Working knowledge of NRSWA and HSG47
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 integrated management systems
- Experience of incident investigation, root cause analysis and RIDDOR reporting
Desirable
- Knowledge of Behavioural Based Safety or Human Factors
- Experience leading continuous improvement or Lean projects
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- NEBOSH Certificate. For the senior level, you'll need a NEBOSH Diploma or another Level 6/7 qualification plus 3+ years' post-Certificate experience.
- IOSH Graduate or Technical membership (TechIOSH). For the senior level, you'll need Chartered membership (CMIOSH).
- EUSR or CSCS card
- Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK
Desirable
- ISO Internal Auditor qualification
- Working towards Chartered IOSH membership
