SHEQ Advisor / SHEQ Manager - Major Civils Project

Location: Peterhead, Aberdeenshire
Sector: Heavy Civils / Energy Infrastructure

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced SHEQ Advisor or SHEQ Manager to join a major infrastructure project in the Peterhead area. The client is flexible and will consider candidates looking for either a permanent position or long-term contract opportunity. This is a substantial heavy civil engineering package forming part of a major energy infrastructure programme, involving significant earthworks, groundworks, access infrastructure, drainage and associated civil engineering works. We are particularly interested in SHEQ professionals who have worked within heavy civils, earthworks, energy, utilities or major infrastructure environments and are comfortable working in a busy, operational site environment.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on experience and seniority, responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and driving SHEQ standards across the project
  • Providing practical health, safety, environmental and quality advice to site teams
  • Conducting regular site inspections, audits and compliance checks
  • Reviewing RAMS, permits and construction documentation
  • Working closely with Project Managers, Site Agents, Engineers and site teams
  • Identifying hazards and ensuring appropriate control measures are implemented
  • Supporting safe delivery of earthworks, groundworks and heavy civil engineering activities
  • Monitoring subcontractor SHEQ performance
  • Conducting incident and near-miss investigations
  • Producing reports and identifying corrective and preventative actions
  • Delivering toolbox talks, briefings and safety initiatives
  • Supporting environmental compliance across site activities
  • Monitoring quality processes and project procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with company procedures and relevant legislation
  • Promoting a positive and proactive safety culture across the project
  • Liaising with the client, subcontractors and other project stakeholders
  • Supporting continuous improvement across SHEQ performance

For candidates joining at SHEQ Manager level, the position will also involve leading the project's SHEQ function, providing guidance to the wider management team and taking greater responsibility for SHEQ strategy, reporting and client engagement.

Experience Required

Candidates should have previous SHEQ / HSEQ / Health & Safety experience within construction or civil engineering. Experience within any of the following would be particularly relevant:

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is comfortable being visible on site and working directly with operational teams. You should be able to challenge unsafe practices while maintaining good relationships with Site Agents, Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and subcontractors. The successful candidate will need to be practical, proactive and confident operating within a fast-moving heavy civil engineering environment.
