SHEQ Manager - Renewable Energy Sector
Working on behalf of our client, we are recruiting for a SHEQ Manager to join a specialist engineering contractor delivering projects across the UK renewable energy sector, with a particular focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are looking to appoint an experienced SHEQ Manager to support the implementation and ongoing development of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality standards across the business.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced SHEQ Manager to take responsibility for supporting the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the company’s SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems across renewable energy projects.
You’ll work closely with project teams, employees and subcontractors to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards, conducting site inspections, risk assessments and audits while promoting a strong safety culture throughout the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SHEQ professional looking to join a growing renewable energy contractor and play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, environmental performance and quality across a developing portfolio of BESS and renewable infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems.
- Conduct risk assessments, site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company standards.
- Deliver SHEQ training, briefings and toolbox talks to employees and subcontractors.
- Support accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards.
- Monitor environmental and sustainability initiatives across renewable energy projects.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory changes and industry best practice.
- Prepare SHEQ reports and maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all levels of the organisation.
- Work closely with project teams to ensure SHEQ requirements are incorporated into project planning and delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve SHEQ performance and support continuous improvement across the business.

Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience within a SHEQ/HSEQ role in the renewable energy, BESS, construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, environmental and quality legislation and regulations.
- Good understanding of risk assessment methodologies and accident investigation techniques.
- Experience working with ISO management systems, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
- Ability to influence employees, subcontractors and project teams to promote a positive SHEQ culture.
- Strong report writing and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.

Desirable
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent, with Diploma-level qualification advantageous.
- IEMA Environmental qualification.
- Internal or Lead Auditor certification for ISO standards.
- First Aid and Fire Safety training.
- Working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Previous experience supporting BESS or renewable energy construction projects.
