Job Title: Shift Electrical Craft
Department: Llanwern Mills
Location: Llanwern (NP19)
Salary: £42,169 per annum inclusive of 30% shift allowance plus benefits
Shifts: 12hr shifts: 4 on 4 off, (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off)
Closing Date: 11th September 2026

At Tata Steel, we’re looking for a shift electrical craftsperson to join our Llanwern Maintenance team. This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands-on engineering expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of critical plant operations.
What you will do:
You will contribute to the team as a skilled craftsperson, working closely with the Shift Engineer to ensure all maintenance and breakdown activities are completed efficiently and in full compliance with health, safety, and engineering standards.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out maintenance, repair, and fault-finding tasks while ensuring compliance with Tata Steel’s engineering standards and legislative requirements.
- Promoting a culture of safety by enforcing risk assessments, safety contacts, and best practices, ensuring the safety of all team members.
- Managing shift priorities, coordinate resources, and maintain SAP records to optimise maintenance activities.
- Leading by example and support the development of team apprentices by delivering on-the-job training and coaching.
- Identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of engineering activities, including fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and team flexibility.

What you will need:
We’re looking for an experienced and motivated craftsperson with strong technical skills and the ability to lead and inspire a team.
Essential Requirements:
- Time-served electrical craftsperson with a strong understanding of maintenance practices.
- A working knowledge of both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
- Experience using SAP or similar systems for maintenance planning and reporting.
- Demonstrable leadership potential, with the ability to coordinate and motivate a team.
- A commitment to safety, with experience promoting compliance and best practices.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience across a variety of plant areas, including ancillary and service systems.
- Proven fault finding on both basic and complex electrical systems.
- Experience working on PLC systems including Siemens S7 and TIA portal, GEM80 and ABB among others.
- Experience with working on both AC and DC overhead gantry cranes.
- Proven ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Progress
- There is the ability to progress through a recognised competency structure with each increment being worth 5% salary increase with the total increase being 15%. This payment is in addition to annual pay awards.
