The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for Shift EC&I Technicians on a 12 month fixed term basis.

The Shift EC&I Technician

The Shift EC&I Technician will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all EC&I assets at the TeesRep Biomass Plant. This includes inspection, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, installations, calibrations and adjustments of all Electrical, Control and Instrumentation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete installation, calibrations, adjustments, troubleshooting and repairs on various types of power plant EC&I Equipment and DCS, PLC control systems.
  • Provide consistently high levels of supervision of contractors at the site.
  • Uses test equipment including, but not limited to: field communicators, calibrators, voltmeters, ammeters, phase indicators, multi-function testers, and oscilloscopes, and able to calibrate Controllers.
  • Ensure that all controls are operating and calibrated according to the manufacturer specifications and ensure they have been documented.
  • Through research, prescribe preventative maintenance requirements for all EC&I equipment for validation by engineering.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance of EC&I Assets and assure the quality of executing all PM tasks including recording detailed information in the CMMS.
  • Assist Engineering and Maintenance Engineers in troubleshooting and investigation of equipment trips. Also, attend critical equipment startups if required by the Operations Department.
  • Ensure reliability/availability of all C&I equipment by monitoring preventive maintenance requirements on plant items. Following P&ID’s, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Respond effectively to emergency fault conditions, when required.
  • Perform and direct complex fault diagnosis on all plant equipment and control systems. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Test control systems and continuity of circuits in hardware wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Ensure that all reporting within the Computerised Maintenance Management System is effective and followed through to completion promptly.
  • Ensure all activities within the plant are carried out in a safe manner to prevent environmental impact ensuring this is in line with site Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and all legislative obligations.

  • CompEx certification to EX01-EX06 standards. Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres regulations is preferred.
  • Good understanding of functional safety requirements and Proof Testing techniques used to complete validation and corrective works on Safety Instrumented Functions.
  • Strong background of working hands-on with DCS, PLC and SCADA systems including version control management, access restrictions and testing. Preferably experience with Siemens, Schneider and ABB platforms.
  • Understanding of Alarm Management practices.
  • Understanding of the use of radioactive isotopes.
  • Good understanding of plant processes and how Electrical, Control and Instrumentation supports generation availability.
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in process control, maintenance and troubleshooting of Plant DCS/PLC equipment.
  • Good understanding of associated limits and alarms and ability to troubleshoot and correct faults within hardware or software related systems.
  • Knowledge of working with a Safe System of Work and permit to work system.
  • Knowledge of reading P&IDs, control, electrical schematics, process and loop diagrams.
