Salary: £52,000 per annum
Location: Tottenham, London
Shift Pattern: 4 Days On, 4 Days Off (12-hour shifts, averaging 43.75 hours per week)
Reporting to: General Manager & Operations Manager
Are you a hands-on engineer who thrives on taking full ownership of a shift? Do you have strong technical fault-finding skills and the ability to lead engineering activity in a fast-paced environment?
We are looking for a skilled Shift Engineer to act as the primary engineering lead on duty for our high-volume Empire Laundry facility in Tottenham. Working a predictable 4 on, 4 off rotations, you will take full control of our industrial commercial laundry production equipment, keeping our operations running smoothly and protecting our client service delivery.
What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Lead the Shift: Act as the main engineering point of contact for the Empire Laundry Production and Operations teams, taking full accountability for breakdowns and maintenance.
- Rapid Breakdown Response: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system faults across commercial laundry machinery (including heavy-duty tunnel washers, dryers, ironers, feeders, folders, and automated conveyor systems).
- Drive Reliability: Deliver the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, complete root-cause investigations on recurring failures, and implement permanent engineering fixes.
- Deliver Seamless Handovers: Provide thorough written and verbal shift handovers using our CMMS/PPM systems to track asset uptime and outstanding tasks.
- Uphold Safety Standards: Ensure strict compliance with PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, and company lock-off/isolation procedures.

What We Are Looking For (Skills & Experience)
- Qualified Expert: Time-served engineer with a strong multi-skilled, mechanical, or electrical engineering background.
- Strong Fault-Finder: Proven diagnostics capability across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems.
- Fast-Paced Background: Experience working in commercial laundry, food manufacturing, FMCG, distribution, or a similarly fast-paced production environment.
- Independent Problem Solver: Ability to make sound engineering decisions under minimal supervision and manage competing operational priorities on the factory floor.
- Strong Communicator: Excellent verbal and written skills for clear technical reporting and shift handovers.

Desirable Qualifications
- HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Valid certifications (e.g., 18th Edition, IOSH, NEBOSH, PUWER).
- Direct experience maintaining industrial laundry equipment or high-volume automated processing machinery.
