Role Description
The Shift Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in London. The Shift Engineer will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining building services and engineering systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance. Daily tasks include:

- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance
- Fault diagnosis and repairs across mechanical and electrical systems
- Supporting statutory compliance checks and documentation

The role involves coordinating with other engineers, site management, and external contractors to minimize downtime, optimize system performance, and uphold health and safety standards. The Shift Engineer will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, energy efficiency measures, and clear communication of issues and resolutions during handovers between shifts.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical and electrical engineering skills, with experience in maintaining building services and critical systems.
- Ability to perform fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repairs, using safe working practices and relevant tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, including working to permit-to-work systems and risk assessments.
- Competence in planned preventive maintenance, asset management, and accurate record-keeping for compliance and reporting.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate with colleagues, clients, and contractors during shift operations.
- Relevant engineering qualification or apprenticeship (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND) in mechanical, electrical, or building services engineering.
- Experience in facilities management, industrial, or commercial environments; exposure to energy-efficient and sustainability-focused practices is an advantage.
- Flexibility to work shift patterns and respond to operational priorities while maintaining high standards of service and professionalism.
