Role Description
The Shift Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based at Finnebrogue’s facility in Downpatrick. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment to ensure consistent and efficient operation across shifts. Day-to-day tasks include performing planned and reactive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve safety. The Shift Engineer will collaborate closely with production, quality, and health & safety teams, document maintenance activities, and follow all regulatory and company standards. The role also involves monitoring equipment performance, proposing technical improvements, and supporting new equipment installations and commissioning.

Qualifications

- Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance skills, including fault-finding, repair, and routine servicing of industrial machinery.
- Experience with production and process equipment in a manufacturing environment, ideally within food or FMCG operations.
- Knowledge of health & safety practices, safe systems of work, and regulatory compliance relevant to engineering in a factory setting.
- Ability to read technical drawings and manuals, use diagnostic tools, and apply root cause analysis to equipment issues.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement and minimizing downtime.
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ, HNC/HND, or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering) or equivalent experience.
- Flexibility to work shifts, respond to changing priorities, and operate in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Experience with PLC-controlled systems and basic automation is beneficial.
- Prior experience in food manufacturing or a similar regulated industry is an advantage.
