Role Description

This is a full-time, Shift Engineer, working permanent nights on a 7-day fortnight shift pattern. The role is based at our site in Caerphilly.

Key Accountabilities

  • Acting as a standalone shift engineer in the factory.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a variety of machinery and equipment used in food production.
  • Proactively identify potential issues and implement preventative measures to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to any machinery breakdowns or technical problems that arise during production hours.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostic tests to accurately identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Collaborate with production teams to develop and implement maintenance schedules that do not disrupt the production flow.
  • Monitor and control equipment performance, ensuring optimal efficiency and adherence to safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, including logs, reports, and records.
  • Ensure that engineering contractors adhere to site rules, health & safety, and food safety standards.

  • Candidates should possess strong mechanical and electrical engineering skills relevant to FMCG or food manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer, preferable in a food production or manufacturing environment.
  • Candidates should possess skills in following safety procedures, working to quality standards, and maintaining hygiene and compliance in a food production setting.
  • Candidates should possess skills in teamwork, clear communication across shifts, and effective time management under night-working conditions.
  • Candidates should ideally have experience with PLC-controlled systems, basic IT literacy, and familiarity with maintenance management systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of machinery and equipment, including but not limited to conveyors, mixers, fillers, and packaging machines.
  • Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ, HNC/HND, or apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical engineering) is highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience in a dairy, food processing, or high-speed manufacturing facility and willingness to work permanent night shifts are advantageous.
