About Hyatt Regency Birmingham
Hyatt Regency Birmingham is ideally located in the heart of the city centre, adjacent to Symphony Hall and within walking distance of the International Convention Centre (ICC), Brindley Place, and the Bullring shopping centre. This contemporary four-star hotel offers direct access to the vibrant canal-side area and is a short stroll from Birmingham New Street Station. The hotel features 319 spacious guest rooms and suites, 12 versatile event spaces, a modern restaurant, a traditional pub-style bar, and a luxurious spa with an indoor pool and fitness centre.
The Role
As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for keeping the hotel in good working order and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for guests and colleagues. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), respond to maintenance issues, and complete general repairs, painting, decorating, and upkeep of hotel facilities, equipment, and guest rooms.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern. Flexibility is required, as shifts will include weekends and may vary in line with the needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and repair work throughout the hotel.
- Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks in guest rooms and public areas.
- Undertake painting and decorating to maintain a high standard of appearance.
- Repair and maintain furniture, fixtures, fittings, and equipment.
- Respond quickly to maintenance issues and staff requests.
- Conduct regular inspections and report any faults or safety concerns.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with health and safety requirements.
- Keep maintenance records up to date.
- Work with contractors when required.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for guests and colleagues.
- Support the wider hotel team with maintenance-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications
About You
Previous experience in a similar role, you'll have relevant qualifications in general maintenance work incorporating a variety of painting, plumbing, electrical or joinery work. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative without close supervision and be able to prioritize your workload. You’ll have a can-do attitude, be adaptable and be able to respond flexibly to different requests and situations.
