Shift Maintenance Engineer / Fabricator
Location: Edmonton
Salary: £51,751.70 per annum + London Weighting Allowance
Hours of work: 4 on, 4 off shift pattern, rotating 2 days and 2 nights, 12 hour shifts, with overtime available
A quick look at the role
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Shift Maintenance Engineer / Fabricator to support the performance and reliability of our operations in Edmonton.
This is a hands-on role combining mechanical maintenance, fault finding, fabrication and repair work to keep plant and equipment operating safely and efficiently. This role is key to maximising plant availability through effective planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, fabrication and continuous improvement activities. You’ll play an important role in maintaining high engineering standards, reducing downtime, carrying out fabrication and welding repairs where required, and ensuring all maintenance work is completed safely and efficiently.
Your core responsibilities
- Deliver high levels of plant availability through effective maintenance, fabrication and rapid breakdown response.
- Diagnose mechanical faults quickly and carry out efficient repairs to minimise operational downtime.
- Support and deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules across site equipment and machinery.
- Carry out fabrication, welding, cutting and modification work to repair, maintain or improve plant, machinery and associated equipment.
- Manufacture, repair and modify metal components, brackets, guards, supports and other plant parts as required.
- Identify recurring faults and help develop long-term engineering solutions, fabrication improvements and process enhancements.
- Carry out mechanical maintenance, fitting, fabrication and repair work on plant and equipment in line with operational priorities.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches and technical specifications to support maintenance and fabrication activities.
- Liaise with external contractors and suppliers regarding specialist maintenance, fabrication and repair activities.
- Maintain high standards of health & safety, compliance and housekeeping at all times, particularly when undertaking welding, hot works and other fabrication activities.
- Ensure engineering and fabrication activities comply with company procedures and current legislation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, operational efficiency and plant performance.

Our essential requirements
- Engineering or fabrication qualification, such as Level 3 City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent.
- Strong mechanical maintenance and/or fabrication experience within an industrial environment.
- Experience carrying out fault finding, repairs and preventative maintenance on production or processing equipment, and/or fabrication and welding repairs.
- Practical experience in fabrication, metalwork, welding and the repair or modification of metal components would be advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced operational environment.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
Desirable qualifications
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
- Additional welding, fabrication or coded welding qualifications.
