Join Arriva TrainCare as a Shift Fitter

Arriva TrainCare is looking for a motivated and safety-focused Shift Fitter to join our team at our Eastleigh Depot. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability and availability of rolling stock.

Working as part of a dedicated maintenance team, you will carry out planned and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Carrying out maintenance and repair activities as allocated by the Team Leader and Management Team within agreed timescales and quality standards.
  • Operating and driving rail vehicles within depot operating limits and in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Ensuring all safety procedures, documentation, Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI), and local depot instructions are followed at all times.
  • Completing maintenance records, worksheets, and documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Adhering to all Quality, Environmental, and Health & Safety procedures and work instructions.
  • Attending technical, safety, quality, and operational briefings, taking appropriate action where required.
  • Undertaking Safety Critical Work assessments under the guidance of the Team Leader and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Supporting rolling stock availability and reliability targets through effective maintenance practices.
  • Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards and ensuring depot facilities remain clean and organised.
  • Using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with company standards and local instructions.
  • Carrying out additional duties appropriate to your level of competence as directed by the Team Leader.
  • Maintaining compliance with all company policies, procedures, and industry regulations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A good standard of education.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering, Rail Traction & Rolling Stock (preferred).
  • Driver Operator/Shunter competence in a relevant vehicle class (desirable).
  • An understanding of production efficiency and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Basic IT skills and the ability to complete electronic maintenance records.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet operational deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks through to completion.
  • A commitment to maintaining high safety, quality, and performance standards.
