ABOUT YOU:

You are a motivated and detail-oriented laboratory professional with experience working in a fast-paced testing environment. Ideally, you will hold a scientific qualification and have experience within a UKAS-accredited laboratory, with knowledge of the chemicals, oil and gas, or related industries.

Highly organised and proactive, you can effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team, take pride in delivering quality results, and are committed to providing excellent service to internal and external customers. As this role operates on a shift basis, you'll be flexible in your approach to working hours, including extended day shifts and occasional overnight and weekend working when required.

Required skills and experience:

  • Degree/Higher National Certificate preferable in related scientific subject and have working experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory
  • Previous experience of working in the chemicals industry in the oil and gas sector preferable
  • Can demonstrate exceptional organisational skills to ensure priorities are met and the ability to plan and organise day-to-day workload with minimal supervision
  • Willing to be “hands on” working at all levels
  • Good time management and an ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • IT literate to include good level of skills in MS Office software
  • Flexible approach to working hours required - extended days shift pattern in place, availability for occasional overnight and weekend work is part of the role

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an excellent opportunity to join Intertek's laboratory team in Ellesmere Port, where you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality analytical testing and reporting services for a diverse customer base. Working within a supportive and experienced team, you'll have the opportunity to further develop your technical expertise while contributing to the high standards of quality, safety, and customer service that Intertek is known for.

As part of a shift-based operation, you'll support the delivery of essential laboratory services across varying work patterns, helping to ensure customer requirements are met efficiently and effectively. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution within a globally recognised organisation that values collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.

Key activities:

  • Perform and support the prioritised daily workload of the analytical team is performed efficiently and effectively in accordance with both approved technical standards and client instructions
  • Collation of the sample analysis results and preparation of final reports for proof reading and issue to clients
  • Report signatory as required on reports where authorised
  • Provide training and mentoring to junior staff in routine analytical techniques, including agreed training plans
  • Inspire and communicate to ensure that team members work together as a cohesive team to constantly improve performance and achieve results
