Join M&S as a Shift Lead where you’ll play a vital role in delivering great service while supporting the smooth running of the store during key trading and operational hours.
This isn’t just a retail job, it’s a role for people who love pace, take pride in getting things done, and are ready to step up and support the team when it matters most. You’ll combine hands-on delivery with leadership responsibility, helping to keep the store moving and ready to trade.
We’re looking for confident, proactive individuals who lead by example, support their colleagues and bring energy to every shift. You’ll be a trusted go-to on the shop floor, helping to coordinate activity and keep standards high.
- At M&S, our customers don’t wait. You’ll be operating in a high-demand environment, stepping in to lead the floor when needed and ensuring customers receive fast, efficient service.
- You’ll lead by doing. Whether it’s serving customers, filling stock or supporting at the tills, you’ll stay hands-on while helping guide the team through busy periods.
- You’ll support the flow of the day. From coordinating tasks to helping allocate resource, you’ll make sure the right things happen at the right time to keep the store ready to trade.
- Efficiency and effectiveness are non-negotiable. You’ll help maintain high standards across the shop floor, ensuring it’s clean, safe, well-stocked and easy to shop.
- You’ll be a role model for the team. Supporting colleagues, sharing best practice and helping create a positive, inclusive environment where everyone can perform at their best.
- Being digitally confident is essential. You’ll use store systems and tools to support operations and help the team deliver great results.
- Flexibility is vital. Retail moves fast and you’ll move faster. From opening and closing tasks to supporting across different areas, you’ll adapt to what the business needs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
