The Role

The Engineering Team are looking to fill the role of Shift Lead Multi Skilled Engineer. As a Shift Lead Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for the management of the maintenance team to ensure self-sufficiency of that team on your shift as well as assisting the Engineering Manager in the management of your team including, control, planning, organising and motivating.

You will work as part of a team and be responsible for maintaining and repairing the manufacturing equipment. Responsible for onsite repairs, unforeseen breakdowns and conducting the preventative and day-to-day maintenance on a continuous process production plant. The ability to diagnose and communicate electrical and/or mechanical faults with machinery ensuring we achieve production company targets and objectives, promoting operational excellence whilst being expected to be a role model at all times.

The role is based at our Tamworth site and based on working the following shift pattern:

Panama Shift Pattern:

  • On - 2 Days, 2 Nights
  • Off - 5 Days
  • On - 2 Days, 3 Nights
  • Off - 4 Days
  • On - 3 Days, 2 Nights
  • Off - 5 Days

Total Cycle Length: 28 days (14 days On, 14 days Off)

As an Shift Lead Maintenance Engineer at IPL you will:

  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety operating procedures and ensuring company and customer technical standards are maintained.
  • Manage HSE issues for the plant ensuring a zero Accident mentality is maintained.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging open communication, teamwork, and a positive work culture.
  • Define, implement, measure, track KPIs to enable improvements within and across disciplines.
  • Communicating with the teams by utilising the visual management, delivery shift briefs with focus on quality, cost and delivery and gathering ideas for improvement.
  • Responsible for accurately completing all compliance paperwork, daily shift reports, HR attendance reports or any other documentation or reporting as and when required by the business.
  • Maintaining a consistent production flow ensuring employees are fully trained and working efficiently.
  • Reporting and managing employee welfare and accidents whilst on shift.
  • Responsible for supporting all engineering breakdowns, diagnosing faults as soon as possible and replacement of machine parts.
  • Rectifying all hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical issues.
  • Enhancing, repairing and maintaining all the Plant, Equipment and Services within the manufacturing facility as per the preventative maintenance schedule and updating the maintenance log.
  • Assisting with the installation and commission of new machinery and equipment with the support of specialist Tool Room Engineers.
  • Involvement with improvement projects during planned downtime and identifying engineering solutions to maximise efficiency of the plant.
  • To maintain a relationship with appropriate plant and services contractors/ suppliers and arrange for such suppliers to undertake the engineering works that are required through breakdowns, maintenance and project/ enhancement work.
  • To organise and maintain the technical database.
  • Order spares / consumables required to support the engineering activities that will be undertaken in house or by a contracted company.
  • Work closely with Production, Tool Change and Tool Room teams to effectively achieve the required engineering outcome.
  • Operate within key Engineering and Health & Safety codes.
  • Any other tasks as requested by Management.
  • Targets: Number of T Cards closed to target, scrap below set target, minimal machine downtime, planned maintenance and project work to be completed in cost and on time.
  • Escalate any quality concerns or machine issues to relevant staff, done via raising non-conformances or confidential reporting when necessary.
  • Levels of 5S are adhered to, both workshop and machines.
  • Ensuring the PPM schedule is adhered to.
  • Working with Production to fully understand the manufacturing plans and being able to action those plans accordingly.

  • Experience in plastic injection moulding.
  • Fully qualified Electrical Engineer, experienced within a manufacturing.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • Apprentice trained mechatronic or Level 3 NVQ or Equivalent in Electrical or Multi Skilled Engineering.
  • Understanding of health and safety processes and safe methods of working.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience of working within a manufacturing environment as a Team Leader or similar supervisory role.
  • Lean manufacturing or production management.
  • GCSE Grade C and above or equivalent Maths and English.
  • ILM or equivalent certificate in Leadership.
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-growing business and meet tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of health and safety processes and safe methods of working.
  • Displays safe and considerate working practices.
  • Fully computer literate and competent using all Microsoft packages including Outlook.
  • Able to read and understand electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings.
  • Can do will do - Showing a positive professional attitude to everyday challenges. Actively looking for the opportunity to make improvements. Willingly to engage in continuous improvement initiatives.
