Stonegate Farmers Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team at the Egg Innovation Centre (EIC), our state-of-the-art cooked egg processing facility.
Role Description
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and performance of our production equipment. Working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across a wide range of machinery and processing equipment.

Key Responsibilities
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities in line with maintenance schedules and engineering priorities.
- Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns, identifying faults and implementing corrective actions to minimise disruption to production.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system faults using a methodical approach.
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Conduct routine inspections of machinery and equipment to identify potential issues before they impact production.
- Support the installation, commissioning, and improvement of new and existing equipment.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve machinery reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Assist in root cause analysis investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
- Support engineering and production teams with continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
- Contribute ideas and solutions that help drive cost savings, improve performance, and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure maintenance records, fault logs, and PPM documentation are maintained to company standards.
- Work in accordance with Health & Safety requirements, food safety standards, and engineering best practices.
- Comply with site procedures, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems where applicable.
- Work collaboratively across departments to achieve production targets and site objectives.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

- Time-served apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, BTEC Level 3, or equivalent qualification in an electrical, mechanical, or electro-mechanical discipline.
- Previous experience working within a food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging, or production environment.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs.
- Good understanding of electrical maintenance and fault-finding.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, motors, conveyors, pumps, pneumatics, and production machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience of working within a highly automated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment and automated production systems.
- Food industry experience and understanding of hygiene and food safety regulations.
- Continuous improvement or Lean Manufacturing experience.
