Shift Manager

Featherstone

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Shift Manager at our Featherstone site. We are looking for a driven and motivated individual with a passion for leadership, people development, and operational excellence to join our team.

This is a challenging yet highly rewarding shift-based role, offering the opportunity to lead teams, drive performance, and contribute to the ongoing success of our manufacturing operation.

About the Role

As Shift Manager, you will be responsible for managing the manufacturing process from goods-in to goods-out, ensuring customer expectations are consistently met in terms of quality, service, and delivery. You will lead a team through two direct reports, driving safety, performance, efficiency, and continuous improvement while maintaining cost control.

Role works on a 4 on 4 off pattern, of 2 x 12 hour days and 2 x 12 hour nights. This rotates 7 times, then there are 18 days off.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver KPI targets across Health & Safety, Quality, Waste, Productivity, Housekeeping, and Team Development.
  • Coach, support, and develop team members to maximise capability and performance.
  • Lead training and development activities across the department.
  • Conduct incidents and accident investigations.

  • Lead root cause analysis and ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
  • Manage production processes to optimise efficiency whilst minimising waste and cost.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing, quality, and customer service.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all DS Smith standards and operating procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous management experience within a manufacturing or packaging environment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills are important.
  • Knowledge of Lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • A proven track record of driving performance and managing change.
  • Leadership qualifications would be advantageous.
