The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for Shift Mechanical Technicians on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis.

The Shift Mechanical Technician is responsible for managing all mechanical maintenance and repair of all equipment associated within the power plant. They will be required to carry out and respond to all aspects of Inspection, Maintenance, and testing on various types of mechanical plant equipment associated with power plant equipment covering boiler, turbine, fuel handling, and balance of plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a variety of mechanical field equipment and workshop functions including, but not limited to, repairing of plant mechanical equipment, re-commissioning, testing, inspecting, and troubleshooting.
  • Through research, prescribe preventative maintenance requirements for all Mechanical equipment for validation by engineering.
  • Under supervision of Mechanical Engineer, execute the program of preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of the mechanical equipment, structures, and building of the plant; make regular inspections and tests of facilities to determine the overall condition of the plant mechanical equipment and structures.
  • Installs, adjusts, inspects, services, and repairs a variety of mechanical equipment, rotating machinery, and mechanical parts within the power station.
  • Clean, lubricate, or maintain equipment, such as turbine auxiliary equipment, gearboxes, pumps, fans, or compressors, to prevent failure or deterioration.
  • Adjust and repair, such as tightening leaking gland and pipe joints.
  • Conduct alignment of rotating equipment.
  • Ensure that all reporting within the Computerised Maintenance Management System is effective and followed through to completion promptly.
  • Ensure all activities within the plant are carried out in a safe manner to prevent environmental impact ensuring this is in line with site Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures and all legislative obligations.

  • Previous mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Good understanding of plant processes and how mechanical equipment supports generation availability; preferably in a thermal power plant.
  • Experience with rotating machinery: pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Pipefitting, welding, or fabrication skills.
  • Knowledge of mechanical seals, couplings, bearings, and alignment.
  • Experience with boiler systems, steam systems, or fuel handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of reading PIDs, general arrangement drawings, and process diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Able to fault find and rectify problems on mechanical equipment.
