ROLE: Shift Multiskilled Engineer
LOCATION: Birmingham, West Midlands
PAY RATE: £22.05 PAYE (£43k equivalent)
CONTRACT: Temp to Perm - ASAP Start - 20th December 2026
HOURS: Monday-Friday, 12:00-20:00 (30-minute break)
SECTOR: Healthcare / Facilities Management
The Role
We are seeking a qualified Shift Multiskilled Engineer to support a major facilities management provider on a large healthcare contract in Birmingham. The successful candidate will primarily work within an acute hospital environment, with duties across associated mental health and retained estate facilities when required.
The role will focus on electrical maintenance, including planned preventative maintenance (PPM), testing and inspection, reactive and breakdown maintenance, and emergency response. Previous healthcare and/or healthcare PFI experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned, reactive, breakdown and emergency electrical maintenance.
- Complete testing, inspection, repairs and new works within the electrical trade scope.
- Ensure response and rectification times and SLAs are achieved, escalating potential delays appropriately.
- Work safely and in compliance with BS 7671, HTMs, CDM, Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications and instructions and work effectively without supervision.
- Accurately update CAFM systems, maintenance records, plant/equipment data and job information.
- Support condition surveys and lifecycle planning through accurate asset information.
- Respond immediately to emergencies to protect people, property and service provision.
- Work with NHS stakeholders and healthcare organisations as required.
- Maintain workshops and work areas in a clean, safe and tidy condition.
- Undertake AP/CP duties where appropriately appointed and authorised.
- Work within sensitive clinical areas, including critical care, emergency departments and operating theatres, following Trust procedures.
- Undertake reasonable duties and training required to maintain NHS services.

Essential Requirements
- Recognised/indentured Electrical Apprenticeship or equivalent.
- AM2 qualification, unless the apprenticeship was completed before AM2 was introduced.
- Recognised electrical qualification, such as City & Guilds 236/2360, 2330 Level 2 & 3, 2357/2560 Diploma or equivalent.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
- City & Guilds 2394 and/or 2395 Testing & Inspection, or equivalent.
- Previous healthcare and/or healthcare PFI experience.
- Strong experience in electrical maintenance, fault-finding, PPM and reactive works.
- Good understanding of statutory compliance, Health & Safety and HTMs.
- Ability to work independently and use CAFM/digital maintenance systems.

Desirable Skills
- ONC, National Certificate, HNC or HND in a relevant discipline.
- HTM-02, HTM-03 or HTM-06 Authorised Person experience.
- LV/HV experience and AP authorisation.
- Mechanical AP, Confined Spaces or IPAF/MEWP training.
- IOSH/NEBOSH Qualifications.
- IWFM certification.
- Degree/Master's in a relevant engineering discipline.
