Widmerpool Biomass Plant is the second Gren-owned site managed by PX Group following the successful partnership at Holbrook biomass CHP facility in Sheffield which began in 2019. The 6.8MWe biomass-fired combined heat and power station is designed to provide sustainable green electricity for over 10,000 homes.

The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for a Shift Team Leader.

The Shift Team Leader is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Biomass Power Plant at Widmerpool. You will manage all aspects of the Biomass Power Plant to ensure it functions at maximum levels of safety, availability, efficiency, and power output.

This role includes a rotating shift pattern that includes weekends and Public Holidays as well as a requirement to provide shift rota cover as required to ensure continuous operation of the Biomass Power Plant.

You’ll be supported with personalized on-the-job training, coaching, mentoring, and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain and develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the plant is always operated within prescribed Health, Safety, and Environmental constraints and guidelines.
  • Detailed incident reporting and collation of data as soon as possible after any accident/incident.
  • Emergency Response: ensuring that the team responds correctly to any plant emergencies.
  • Comply with all safe working processes and procedures.
  • Ensure that all production tasks are carried out within the bounds of PX Limited’s Safe Work Processes (Safety Rules, Method Statement/SOP & Risk Assessments).
  • Provide effective administration and application of Safe Systems of Work and Health & Safety policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of the site Environmental Permit.
  • Familiarity with all operating standards and reporting requirements for the plant.
  • Carry out first-line diagnosis and maintenance activities in conjunction with current procedures in order to preserve the highest levels of safety, environmental compliance, plant integrity, and availability.
  • Comply with and actively participate in Company rules, procedures, and initiatives, in particular those relating to Health, Safety, Environmental management, and Continuous Improvement.
  • Keep the Management team well informed of all aspects of plant performance which may impact upon the safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the plant.
  • Day-to-day operational responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the Fuel Feed, Furnace, Boiler, Steam Turbine, Flue Gas Treatment, Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS), Ash Collection Systems, and balance of plant including Water Treatment Plant.
  • Perform the role of a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) in line with PX Limited Safety Rules. As such, ensure Safety from the System is achieved by safely isolating, depressurising, draining, and cooling aspects of Plant and Apparatus as necessary to enable rectification/maintenance works to be carried out safely.
  • Actively participate in daily Work Control meetings with the site management team to ensure effective communication of plant performance and to assist in the coordination of essential maintenance activities.

  • Recognised apprenticeship/engineering qualification.
  • Practical experience in an operations or maintenance role in a power generation, EfW, marine propulsion, petrochemical, or process systems setting.
  • Experience of operating plant via a DCS/SCADA interface.
  • Knowledge of pressure systems, LV, and HV electricity preferable.
  • Proficient IT skills including word & excel for reporting duties.
  • Understanding of Safe Systems of Work.
  • Willingness to work shift systems associated with a 24/7 operation.
