We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a major industrial energy facility in the Essex area.
Our client is seeking a technically strong Mechanical Engineer with experience in heavy industry, power generation, energy recovery, utilities or similar process-driven environments.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an established organisation operating within the energy and resource recovery sector, taking responsibility for mechanical maintenance, plant reliability and continuous improvement.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of mechanical plant and equipment.
Working closely with electrical, control and instrumentation engineering teams, you will support maintenance planning, asset reliability and engineering improvements across the facility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, coordinate and oversee preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance activities across the facility.
- Support the development and implementation of effective maintenance strategies to maximise plant availability and reliability.
- Provide technical expertise in mechanical fault diagnosis, repairs and equipment maintenance.
- Supervise contractors and maintenance personnel, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required standards.
- Manage maintenance activities through a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Support the effective management of engineering stores, workshops, spare parts and maintenance resources.
- Ensure compliance with Permit to Work procedures, Safe Systems of Work and relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Work collaboratively with engineering and operations teams to identify opportunities for improved equipment performance and reliability.
- Monitor maintenance performance against agreed KPIs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues across the facility.

About You
We are interested in speaking with Mechanical Engineers who have experience maintaining and improving mechanical equipment within demanding industrial environments.
The ideal candidate will have:
- An HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical machinery, repair methods, maintenance practices and engineering materials.
- Experience within power generation, energy recovery, utilities, heavy manufacturing or other industrial/process environments.
- A strong understanding of planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and plant reliability.
- Experience working with CMMS systems to manage and record maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of Permit to Work procedures and Safe Systems of Work.
- Experience supervising contractors or engineering personnel.
- Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and communication skills.
- A proactive approach to health, safety, maintenance improvement and operational performance.

Experience within power generation or energy recovery would be advantageous, although candidates from other relevant heavy industrial backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
