Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading energy company in the UK to recruit a Shift Team Leader for their Energy from Waste power station in Gloucester

The Shift Team Leader role comes with a starting salary of up to £68,000 plus benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties of the Shift Team Leader role

Reporting To The Operations Manager You Will

  • Lead and coordinate the activities of the shift operations team to ensure safe and efficient plant performance
  • Take delegated responsibility for site operations outside of standard office hours
  • Act as Senior Authorised Person, issuing and cancelling safety documentation in line with site safety rules
  • Respond to and manage operational incidents and emergencies in accordance with the site emergency plan
  • Ensure the facility operates in full compliance with environmental permits, planning conditions and statutory requirements
  • Monitor plant performance and take proactive steps to optimise availability, reliability and efficiency
  • Oversee waste acceptance to ensure only compliant materials are processed
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, operational reports and incident documentation
  • Deliver structured and effective shift handovers
  • Support the development, coaching and performance management of shift personnel
  • Promote a strong safety culture and high standards of housekeeping across the site
  • Provide shift cover where required to maintain operational continuity

Professional Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Extensive operational experience within a power generation environment such as Energy from Waste, CCGT, biomass, coal or oil-fired plant, or relevant experience as a Royal Navy Marine Engineer
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, environmental compliance and safe systems of work
  • Experience operating under formal safety rules and permit to work systems
  • Proven ability to make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Level 3 qualification in relevant subject such as operations or engineering.
  • Happy to work a shift pattern that includes day and night shifts.
