Shift Technician - Data Centre
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Shift Technician to join an established data centre operator at a critical facility in Longcross, Surrey. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical or mechanical engineer to support the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure within a data centre environment. Working as part of an on-site engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining essential building services, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, responding to technical issues and ensuring the continued availability of critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical systems.
- Monitor and maintain infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, chillers, HVAC, pumps, and electrical distribution.
- Complete routine plant inspections and identify potential equipment faults or abnormalities.
- Respond to alarms, investigate faults, and support effective incident resolution.
- Assist with the testing, servicing, and maintenance of critical plant and equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures, and method statements.
- Work in accordance with permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and health and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs, and technical documentation.
- Support contractors during maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely and in line with site procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and site performance.
- Support emergency response activities to minimise operational disruption and maintain service continuity.

Experience Required
- An electrical or mechanical qualification, ideally NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
- Previous experience within data centres, critical environments, facilities management, or building services.
- Good working knowledge of electrical or mechanical infrastructure.
- Experience undertaking planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, and fault finding.
- Familiarity with UPS systems, generators, chillers, HVAC, and electrical distribution.
- Understanding of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to technical issues.
- A proactive approach to health and safety, maintenance, and operational reliability.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a shift team.
- Flexibility to work a continental shift pattern, including days and nights.
