SHIFT TECHNICIAN – DATA CENTRE
Location: Woking, Surrey
Shift Pattern: Continental Shift
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Employment Type: Permanent
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join a leading global data centre operator at a critical facility in Woking, Surrey.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong maintenance and critical facilities background to join an established technical team responsible for maintaining the reliability, availability, and performance of a mission-critical environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the facility, supporting day-to-day operations, and ensuring all critical infrastructure remains operational to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across critical infrastructure.
- Monitor and maintain electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.
- Respond to faults, alarms, and equipment failures in a timely manner.
- Operate and monitor site BMS and associated control systems.
- Assist with testing, inspections, and routine operational checks.
- Support maintenance activities across LV electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, HVAC, and cooling infrastructure.
- Complete switching, isolation, and reinstatement activities where authorized.
- Follow site-specific SOPs, EOPs, RAMS, and Permit to Work procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and operational documentation.
- Work closely with contractors and specialist engineering teams.
- Participate in emergency response and incident management procedures.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health & safety and site operational requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

About You
We are looking for an engineer who has experience working within a data centre, critical infrastructure, industrial, commercial, or similarly high-availability environment.

You should have:
- Previous experience as a Shift Engineer, Shift Technician, Critical Facilities Engineer, Data Centre Technician, or similar.
- Strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance experience.
- Experience working with critical infrastructure such as UPS, generators, switchgear, HVAC, chillers, or BMS.
- Good understanding of planned and reactive maintenance.
- Ability to work effectively within a shift-based engineering team.
- Strong understanding of health & safety, RAMS, LOTO, and Permit to Work processes.
- A proactive approach to fault finding and preventative maintenance.
- Relevant electrical or mechanical qualifications.
