Shift Technician - Data Centre
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join an established data centre operator at a critical facility in Slough, Berkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically or mechanically qualified engineer to work within a critical environment, supporting the operation, maintenance and reliability of essential data centre infrastructure. Working as part of an on-site engineering team, you will play a key role in maintaining site availability, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, responding to technical faults and ensuring critical systems operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Monitor and maintain essential systems, including UPS, generators, chillers, HVAC, pumps and electrical distribution.
- Conduct routine plant inspections and identify potential faults or equipment abnormalities.
- Respond to alarms, investigate technical issues and carry out fault-finding activities.
- Support emergency response procedures and ensure incidents are managed in line with site protocols.
- Assist with the testing, servicing and maintenance of critical plant and equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures and method statements.
- Work in accordance with permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs and technical documentation.
- Coordinate contractors during maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve site reliability and operational performance.

Experience Required
- An electrical or mechanical qualification, ideally NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
- Previous experience within data centres, critical environments, facilities management or building services.
- Working knowledge of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Experience undertaking planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and fault finding.
- Familiarity with UPS systems, generators, chillers, HVAC and electrical distribution.
- Understanding of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and health and safety procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive approach to maintenance, safety and operational reliability.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a shift engineering team.
- Flexibility to work a continental shift pattern, including days and nights.
