Shift Technician - Data Centre
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join an established data centre operator, working in-house at a critical facility. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically or mechanically qualified engineer to play a key role in maintaining the reliability, availability and performance of critical infrastructure within a data centre environment. Working as part of an on-site engineering team, you will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, fault finding and monitoring essential building services to ensure continuous operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance across critical building services and infrastructure.
- Monitor and maintain critical systems, including UPS, generators, chillers, HVAC, electrical distribution and associated mechanical plant.
- Conduct routine plant inspections, identify potential issues and report defects or abnormalities.
- Respond to alarms, investigate faults and support incident management activities.
- Assist with the testing, servicing and maintenance of critical equipment.
- Follow site-specific procedures, including standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures and method statements.
- Work in accordance with permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs and technical documentation.
- Support contractors and specialist service providers during maintenance activities.
- Ensure all critical infrastructure operates safely, efficiently and in line with site performance requirements.

Experience Required
- An electrical or mechanical qualification, such as an NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance, building services, critical environments or data centres.
- Working knowledge of electrical or mechanical systems, with exposure to critical infrastructure.
- Understanding of planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and fault-finding procedures.
- Familiarity with health and safety requirements, risk assessments and permit-to-work systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
- Willingness to work a shift pattern, including nights and weekends where required.
