Shift Technician - Data Centre
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Shift Technician to join a leading data centre and critical infrastructure operator at a site in Canary Wharf, London.
This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically or mechanically qualified engineer to work within a critical environment, supporting the operation, maintenance and reliability of essential building services infrastructure.
Working as part of an on-site engineering team, you will play a key role in maintaining site availability, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, responding to faults and ensuring all critical systems operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance across critical building services.
- Monitor and maintain critical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, chillers, HVAC, pumps and electrical distribution.
- Conduct routine plant inspections and identify potential faults or equipment abnormalities.
- Respond to alarms, investigate technical issues and carry out fault-finding activities.
- Support emergency response procedures and ensure critical incidents are managed in line with site protocols.
- Assist with the testing, servicing and maintenance of essential plant and equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures and method statements.
- Work in accordance with permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and lockout/tagout procedures where applicable.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs and technical documentation.
- Supervise and coordinate contractors during maintenance activities where required.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, site procedures and operational standards.

Experience Required
- An electrical or mechanical qualification, ideally NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
- Previous experience in data centres, critical environments, commercial building services or facilities maintenance.
- Working knowledge of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Experience with planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and technical fault finding.
- Understanding of UPS systems, generators, HVAC and electrical distribution would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to respond effectively to technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a shift engineering team.
- Flexibility to work a continental shift pattern, including days and nights.
