Shift Technician – Data Centre | Croydon

We’re currently supporting a leading facilities management provider with the appointment of a Shift Technician to join a high-profile critical data centre operation in Croydon.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical or M&E Engineer looking to work within a highly critical environment, supporting the day-to-day operation and maintenance of essential infrastructure.

The Role

You will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of critical M&E infrastructure, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance while responding to faults and ensuring the site remains operational 24/7.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across critical infrastructure
  • Reactive fault finding and corrective maintenance
  • Monitoring and operating critical plant and equipment
  • Supporting electrical and mechanical systems across the facility
  • Working with UPS, generators, LV/HV distribution and associated systems
  • Supporting HVAC, chillers, pumps, AHUs and cooling infrastructure
  • BMS monitoring and responding to alarms
  • Working to SOPs, MOPs, EOPs and Permit to Work procedures
  • Supervising and escorting specialist subcontractors
  • Completing accurate maintenance records and shift handovers
  • Responding to critical incidents and following escalation procedures
  • Supporting continuous improvement and maintaining high QHSE standards

About You

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering background
  • Relevant Level 3 / City & Guilds / NVQ qualification
  • Previous experience within a critical environment, data centre, commercial building or similar
  • Strong fault-finding and maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of UPS, generators, BMS, HVAC or critical power systems
  • Understanding of Permit to Work / RAMS / safe systems of work
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a shift team
  • HVAP / AP experience desirable but not essential
