Company Description
William Lockie Co Ltd is a historic Scottish knitwear manufacturer, crafting premium cashmere and natural-fibre garments since 1874. Based in Hawick on the banks of the River Slitrig, the company is at the center of Scotland’s renowned knitwear and cashmere industry. William Lockie uses carefully sourced raw cashmere and the uniquely soft local water to produce exceptionally soft yarns that are difficult to replicate elsewhere. Skilled craftspeople combine traditional techniques with modern technology to create luxurious garments designed to last for decades. In addition to cashmere, the mill produces garments in other 100% natural fibres, including camelhair, super geelong, merino, lambswool, and cotton.

Day-to-day tasks include tailoring and updating existing programs, maintaining technical documentation, and supporting continuous improvement in production processes and garment innovation. The role also includes monitoring machine performance and providing input on how to best leverage Shima Seiki technology in line with William Lockie’s quality standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
