Background

Chiswick Auctions is a busy auction house located in Chiswick, West London. This position is based in 5 Roslin Square, W4 4PH, nearest tube Action Town. The busy in-house shipping department ships items to clients, mainly nationally but some internationally. Items include jewellery, watches, works on paper, books, pictures, and silver among others.

This position will work with a team of two other packers under the supervision of the Post-Sale Manager. In addition, they will provide a cleaning service across the three units that Chiswick Auctions occupies in Roslin Square, units 1, 5, and 6.

Hours: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week

Remuneration: £27,000 per annum

Key responsibilities

Packer (60%)

  • Follow a process to pack a range of items that have been won in different auctions, using different materials
    • Examples of items include watches, jewellery, silver, works on paper, pictures
  • Ensure the packaging is suitable for the object, e.g. fragile objects, objects with unusual shapes, heavy objects
  • Ensure that packing stock is managed and handled correctly
  • Maintain records correctly and ensure that the Shipping Coordinator has any relevant key information

Cleaning (40%)

  • Up to three hours per day across units 1, 5, and 6, usually in the late afternoon
    • Hoovering the floor
    • Emptying bins – including recycling
    • Cleaning the kitchens (2)
    • Cleaning the toilets (5)
  • In addition, ‘emergency cleaning’ if there is an incident

Person specification

  • Some relevant work experience of working in a fast-paced environment, e.g. FMCG
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to lift-and-shift objects and shipping boxes, some of which may be heavy and/or fragile
  • Customer-facing skills, IT literacy, and a clean UK driving licence are preferred but not essential
