Mode Search is supporting a premium lifestyle brand with the search for an experienced Shopify Developer to take ownership of the ongoing development, optimisation and technical performance of its ecommerce platform. This is an opportunity for a commercially minded developer to play an important role in the evolution of the brand’s digital experience, combining strong Shopify expertise with an understanding of customer journey, conversion and ecommerce best practice.
This role is 3 to 5 days in the office per week, with some options for remote working.
As Shopify Developer, you will work closely with the Digital Lead and wider business to deliver a high-quality, reliable and continually improving online experience. You will take responsibility for development across the Shopify platform, from introducing new functionality and enhancing existing features through to troubleshooting, performance optimisation and technical best practice.
The Role
- Own the ongoing development, maintenance and enhancement of the Shopify website in line with commercial and digital priorities.
- Create and implement new functionality, features, sections and templates across the site.
- Develop and refine existing theme functionality to improve the overall customer experience.
- Work extensively across Shopify Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Build and manage functionality using Shopify metafields, metaobjects and theme settings.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, identifying potential problems before they impact site performance or the customer journey.
- Support initiatives designed to improve usability, conversion and the overall ecommerce experience.
- Manage and troubleshoot integrations with third-party applications, services and APIs.
- Ensure all development is fully responsive and performs effectively across different browsers and devices.
- Carry out comprehensive testing and quality assurance ahead of releases and deployments.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements across site speed, accessibility, Core Web Vitals and technical SEO.
- Produce clean, scalable and well-structured code that supports the long-term development of the platform.
- Work within established version control, testing and deployment processes.
- Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external specialists to deliver digital projects and improvements.
- Provide informed technical recommendations on proposed website developments, balancing best practice with wider commercial priorities.
- Keep abreast of developments across Shopify, ecommerce technology and relevant digital best practice.

Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years’ commercial experience working as a Shopify Developer.
- Strong, hands-on knowledge of Shopify and its theme architecture.
- Advanced working knowledge of Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Demonstrable experience developing and maintaining Shopify Online Store 2.0 themes.
- Strong experience working with Shopify sections, blocks, templates and theme settings.
- Good knowledge of Shopify metafields and metaobjects.
- Experience developing functionality across products, collections, cart and customer journeys.
- Confident integrating, maintaining and troubleshooting third-party Shopify applications.
- Strong understanding of responsive frontend development and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experience using Git and working within version-controlled development and deployment workflows, including GitHub-based environments.
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving capabilities, with experience working within established codebases.
- A solid understanding of website performance, frontend optimisation and Core Web Vitals.
- Strong knowledge of technical SEO and accessibility best practice.
- Familiarity with Shopify Flow.
- An understanding of ecommerce analytics, tracking and data layers, including GA4 and Google Tag Manager.
- A good understanding of UX, CRO and wider ecommerce best practice.
- Strong attention to detail with a rigorous approach to testing and quality assurance.
- Experience with Shopify Plus, Shopify APIs, Shopify Functions or custom Shopify app development would be advantageous.
- Exposure to REST and GraphQL APIs and JavaScript frameworks such as React would be beneficial.
- Experience integrating Shopify with ERP, CRM, inventory or fulfilment platforms would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of Shopify Markets, international ecommerce, or headless/custom ecommerce environments would be beneficial.
- Previous experience within luxury, fashion, interiors, lifestyle or another premium ecommerce environment would be particularly relevant.
- Highly organised, proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities and take ownership of technical projects.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to understand how technical decisions affect the wider customer and business experience.
- A clear and confident communicator who can translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative and adaptable, while equally comfortable working independently and investigating complex problems.
- Pragmatic in approach, with the ability to balance technical best practice, quality and commercial requirements in a fast-moving ecommerce environment.
