Aviation Recruitment experts Optime Group have an exciting opportunity to join our client at Stansted Airport as a Security Officer. You will be a friendly face that holiday makers can depend on at the first step of their holiday, working closely with our Airport Operations Team to support passengers and ensure they have a seamless airport experience.
Start Date
Once your 5-year work/address history has been completed and you are in possession of an Airside Pass.
Please note: You will require a valid SIA licence for this role.
What’s on Offer
- Location: Stansted Airport (CM24 1QW)
- Rate of Pay: £13.84 per hour
- Shift pattern: 7 ON 4 OFF THEN 7 ON 3 OFF (Roster Example Below) - Please note this role will require you to work both days and nights.
- 4 days / 3 nights / 4 off / 3 days / 4 nights / 3 off
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (06:00–18:00 / 18:00–06:00)
- Weekly pay (every Friday)
- Temp to Perm (performance-based)
Key Duties
-
Screening of Hold Baggage:
- Operate X-ray and explosive detection systems (EDS) to screen checked-in baggage for prohibited and dangerous items.
- Interpret images accurately to identify threats and escalate suspicious findings as per standard procedures.

Compliance with Security Regulations:
- Ensure all screening activities are conducted in line with national and international aviation security regulations (e.g., ECAC, ICAO, TSA).
- Maintain a high level of awareness and adherence to airport security protocols.

Manual Bag Search:
- Conduct physical inspection of hold baggage when required, following established security procedures and with respect for passengers’ property.

Use of Screening Equipment:
- Ensure all equipment is correctly calibrated, maintained, and used as per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
- Report any malfunctions or irregularities in screening devices immediately to supervisors.

Documentation & Reporting:
- Accurately complete all required security logs, reports, and incident forms in a timely manner.
- Support investigations by providing detailed and factual information as needed.

Cooperation with Airport & Airline Personnel:
- Work closely with ground handling agents, airline staff, and airport authorities to ensure secure baggage handling and smooth operations.

Emergency Response:
- Respond swiftly and appropriately to security alerts, alarms, or emergency situations involving hold baggage.

Training & Continuous Improvement:
- Attend regular training sessions on updated security procedures, threat identification, and equipment usage.
- Participate in drills and internal audits to ensure constant operational readiness.

Customer Service & Professionalism:
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times while ensuring passenger safety and service excellence.
- Handle inquiries and interactions with respect, confidentiality, and discretion.

Health, Safety & Environmental Awareness:
- Follow health and safety policies while performing baggage screening duties.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary and contribute to a safe work environment.

The Airport is operational 7 days per week and candidates will be working on either of the below rolling rota and you will need to be fully flexible with the days and hours you can work. This could be subject to change!

- Day 1: 06:00am to 18:00pm
- Day 2: 06:00am to 18:00pm
- Day 3: 06:00am to 18:00pm
- Day 4: 06:00am to 18:00pm
- Day 5: 18:00pm to 06:00am
- Day 6: 18:00pm to 06:00am
- Day 7: 18:00pm to 06:00am

Requirements
- You must have lived in the UK for 3 years or longer as you are required to complete a CTC for this role.
- Must hold a valid SIA Licence/Badge
- Passport or Birth Certificate
- UK Settled Status (If applicable)
- Proof of National Insurance
- Proof of (current) Address
- 5 Year Address History
- 5 Year Work Reference History
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a basic DBS record check following interview in line with CAA requirements.
PLEASE NOTE: As this position is in the aviation industry, successful applicants must be able to provide 5-year checkable history.
