Siemens CNC Controls Engineer
Shillito Group are recruiting for a client looking for an experienced Siemens CNC Controls Engineer to join their engineering team.
This is a hands-on role working with CNC machinery, Siemens Sinumerik controls, PLCs, and drives. You’ll be involved in getting machines set up, commissioned, and running properly, as well as diagnosing and fixing faults when things go wrong.
There will also be some travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, and technical support.
What you’ll be doing:
- Setting up and commissioning CNC machines using Siemens Sinumerik controls
- Programming and modifying Siemens PLCs using STEP 7 and TIA Portal
- Configuring CNC controls, servo motors, and Siemens drives
- Fault finding across CNC controls, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Testing machines and making sure everything is working correctly before production
- Working with sensors, encoders, motors, and machine safety systems
- Reading electrical and mechanical drawings to diagnose problems
- Supporting customers with machine installations, breakdowns, and technical issues
- Travelling to customer sites when required

What we’re looking for:
You’ll need practical experience working with Siemens controlled CNC machinery, ideally within machine tool manufacturing, commissioning, service, or retrofit environments.

You should be comfortable with:
- Siemens Sinumerik CNC controls
- Siemens PLC programming
- STEP 7 and/or TIA Portal
- CNC parameter setting and configuration
- Electrical and controls fault finding
- Servo motors and drive systems
- Understanding how CNC machines work mechanically as well as electrically
You don’t need to be a CNC machinist, but you do need a good understanding of machining processes and how CNC machine tools operate.
This would suit someone currently working as a CNC Controls Engineer, Siemens Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, Machine Tool Engineer, or CNC Service Engineer who wants a role combining controls, fault finding, and hands-on engineering.
