Store Manager – Simply Food at M&S

At M&S Simply Food, we’re obsessed with delivering the very best in food quality, freshness, and customer experience. As a Store Manager, you’ll lead from the front in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where standards, availability, and pace are everything. You’ll take full ownership of your store, driving performance, leading your people, and ensuring every customer leaves with a great experience.

This is a role for a confident, hands-on leader who thrives on delivering results, building high-performing teams, and bringing the M&S food offer to life every single day.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead the delivery of the full retail plan across the store, driving:

    • Commercial performance
    • Operational excellence
    • Visual merchandising standards
    • People engagement to deliver against the P&L targets.
  • Set the store strategy and direction, ensuring every colleague understands their responsibilities and accountability.

  • Own the change agenda by implementing transformation initiatives with clarity, urgency, and pace.

  • Build a high-performance culture through:

    • Coaching and developing managers
    • Identifying and nurturing talent
    • Creating a store culture that attracts and retains great colleagues.
  • Make data-driven decisions to:

    • Unlock opportunities
    • Drive profit and efficiency
    • Improve customer service
  • Drive digital adoption and omnichannel capability, enabling teams to sell seamlessly across all platforms.

  • Act as the voice of the store, representing colleagues’ concerns while ensuring follow-through on improvements.

What You Are

  • A proven leader of large teams in a fast-paced retail environment, with a focus on delivery, standards, and results.

  • Confident in managing commercial operations, visual merchandising, logistics, and people— integrating them for maximum impact.

  • A clarity-first communicator, with the ability to:

    • Make tough calls
    • Inspire colleagues
    • Hold people accountable.
  • Skilled in planning, performance management, and resilience, balancing big-picture thinking with detail orientation.

  • Proficient in digital tools, data analysis, and systems—using them to make faster, smarter decisions and coach others effectively.

  • Strong at building cross-team and cross-peer partnerships, leveraging collaborative insights to tackle challenges and drive transformation.
