Main duties of the job
As part of our team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues, helping to deliver excellent services and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Consultant or SAS doctor to lead the development and strategic direction of simulation-based education across UHS.
As Simulation Medical Lead, you will drive implementation of the ASPiH Standards 2023, establish governance frameworks, and champion simulation as a tool for patient safety, human factors training, quality improvement, and workforce development. Working closely with education, patient safety, and clinical teams, you will shape innovative learning programmes, support faculty development, and help build a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
This is a 1.5 PA role reporting to the Director of Education and Workforce and the Clinical Director of Patient Safety. Applicants must discuss their application with their clinical lead and ensure they have authorisation to accommodate the role in their job plan.
Informal enquiries can be made to Christina Rennie, Clinical Director of Patient Safety (Christina.Rennie@uhs.nhs.uk) or Kate Nash Director of Education and Workforce (via debbi.plumbley@uhs.nhs.uk).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
