Simulation & Modelling Engineer – Autonomous Systems
Help build the virtual world that an advanced interceptor UAV will be designed, tested and proven in, before it ever leaves the ground.
I'm hiring a Simulation & Modelling Engineer to develop and maintain the models, environments and analysis tools that sit at the centre of the UAV programme. You’ll create representative vehicle, sensor and environment models so GNC, AI/ML perception and system performance can be developed and assessed faster, with far less reliance on physical testing.
What you’ll do
- Develop and maintain UAV simulation models covering vehicle dynamics, sensors and key environmental effects
- Build simulation environments to test GNC algorithms and AI/ML-based image processing (MATLAB/Simulink, Unreal Engine or equivalent)
- Create representative mission scenarios and synthetic sensor inputs for algorithm development and test
- Design and run Monte Carlo campaigns across operating conditions, uncertainties and system parameters
- Analyse results to surface performance limits, sensitivities and design improvements
- Support Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and system integration testing
- Correlate simulation with ground and flight-test data to raise model fidelity
- Work closely with GNC, AI/ML, Systems and Flight Test engineers throughout development and verification

What you’ll bring
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Systems Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline
- Experience developing dynamic system simulations, ideally for UAVs, aerospace, robotics or autonomous systems
- Strong MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python
- Solid grounding in flight dynamics, control systems and numerical modelling
- Experience with Monte Carlo simulation, sensitivity analysis or performance modelling
- Clear analytical thinking and a practical approach to complex technical problems

Nice to have
- Unreal Engine, AirSim, Gazebo or similar simulation environments
- Experience on autonomous systems
- Familiarity with AI/ML computer vision and synthetic image generation
- SIL/HIL testing or integration of flight software/autopilots
- Correlating models against flight-test data
How we work
This is a hands-on role in a small, tight-knit engineering team. You’ll move between software, modelling and real-world system behaviour, balancing simulation fidelity with the speed the programme needs.
